Andrew Bailey Wins AL Rookie of the Year
November 16th, 2009 | by jrussell |Andrew Bailey becomes the seventh American League Rookie of the Year for the Oakland Athletics on Monday.
Bailey received 13 first place votes and a total of 88 votes compared to Elvis Andrus of the Rangers (8 first place votes, 65 total) and Rick Procello from the Tigers (7 first place votes, 64 total).
Bailey, the A’s lone All-Star representative this year, went 6-3 and saved 26 games and led the league’s rookie pitchers with a 1.84 ERA.
Bailey joins former A’s rookies of the year Huston Street (2005), Bobby Crosby (2004), Ben Grieve (1998), Walt Weiss (1988), Mark McGwire (1987), and Jose Canseco (1986).
